What The Float is back after a much-too-long winter hibernation! New York weather isn't quite ready for us to go on a full dance adventure until April 21st, but in the meantime Prohibition Bar has been so kind as to offer us their space for a night of gleeful silent abandon. Please join us (and some of your favorite Float DJs) on Sunday, February 18th, 10:00pm-4:00am for up to three channels of no-holds-barred musical mayhem at Prohibition Bar, 503 Columbus Ave., near 86th St. C,B, and 1 subway stops!

What's a silent disco, you ask?

Well, we'll tell you! When you arrive, you'll see a whole horde of people dancing their butts off with headphones glowing blue, red, or green, but in complete silence. Each color receives perfectly synced live music from a different one of our DJs. Pretty immediately, you're gonna feel a little left out cause damn they're having a blast, so we'll set you up with your own pair of headphones (and grab your ID to hold onto until you bring 'em back at the end of the night), and you'll have complete and immediate control of which channel to listen to and how loud the music plays, just flipping a switch on your headphones. If you need a break, just pull off your headphones, and suddenly you can talk without having to scream your throat raw, just like that!

What's What The Float?

It's us! You're on our website right now! We're a both a team of highly varied creators and a warmly welcoming community of joyful fans. Our community boasts New Yorkers of all ages and from all walks of life. You'll find yourself getting down among some literal professional dancers side-by-side with lawyers and doctors who discovered they like being able to let loose and get a little weird, and everyone in between. In the warmer seasons, we're known for our "Floating Dance Parties". It's like silent disco, but we take the show on the road, leading you on a dance party that's also an adventure through dynamic spaces both world-famous and close-guardedly secret. Our Floating Dance Parties have woven their way through spaces as varied as Central Park, Penn Station, the Staten Island Ferry, SXSW, Santa Catalina, the back alleys of Beijing, and more. There's nothing quite like it in the world, and we hope you'll join us for one this summer as well!
